Escient is delighted to announce our partnership with the Black Dog Institute (BDI).

Research shows every year one in five Australians will experience symptoms of mental illness but 60 percent will not seek help.

Escient CEO, Steve Mabbs, says employees influenced the choice to support the Black Dog Institute.

We were looking for an organisation to partner with beyond just giving financial support. The Black Dog Institute is at the forefront of mental health research and we will work with them across three areas to make a real impact on the wellbeing of Australians.

A partnership with purpose and impact

Escient’s partnership with the Black Dog Institute goes deeper than just financial support.

  1. Escient will offer pro bono consulting services to support the Black Dog Institute’s delivery of education and services through digital tools and apps. Escient’s digital expertise will help the mental health organisation continue to run workshops in communities, schools and workplaces to help teach people the best practice approach when it comes to support.
  2. Black Dog will train the Escient workforce to build a mentally healthy and resilient workplace. This will also spread the word about the Black Dog Institute and its mission through our networks.
  3. Escient will support the Black Dog Institute’s fundraising initiatives, starting with the One Foot Forward program, kicking off in October. The program is designed to fund mental health research, asking Australians to walk in solidarity with people experiencing mental health issues. Funds raised will help the Black Dog Institute deliver services to Australians who need mental health support.

Black Dog’s Director Funding and Partnerships, Karen Elliff, praised Escient’s generous gift of time, skills and knowledge that will help Black Dog Institute achieve strategic goals, and says BDI is looking forward to delivering workplace mental health programs to Escient employees.

The partnership with Escient is a wonderful example of the multi-pronged way organisations can engage with Black Dog Institute. Escient will be providing invaluable pro bono strategic and technical expertise to some of our key projects, along with vital funds to support our research and programs more broadly.

About the Black Dog Institute

The Black Dog Institute is the only medical research institute in Australia to investigate mental health across the lifespan. Their aim is to create a mentally healthier world for everyone.

They do this through ‘translational’ research. Integrating their research studies, education programs, digital tools and apps, clinical services, and public resources to discover new solutions, foster connections and create real-world change.

Their partnerships with people with lived experience, federal, state and local governments, communities, schools, corporate Australia and others in the mental health sector enables them to drive evidence-informed change in mental health where it’s needed most.
