Diego Mercado
What is your background?
I was born and raised in Bolivia before relocating to Mexico to pursue my studies. During my time at university, I secured several internships that shaped my perspective on the importance of fostering a people-centric culture within organisations. Driven by a passion for new experiences and professional growth, I later moved to Australia, ready to embrace new challenges and advance my career.
Why did you choose Escient?
Escient stood out to me for its strong people-centric culture and the importance the organisation places on its values. This became increasingly evident throughout the recruitment process, and ultimately, it was what led me to choose Escient.
What did you like about the Graduate recruitment process?
Entering a new workforce in a different language was initially a bit daunting, but throughout the entire process, everyone made me feel welcomed and supported—which truly made a difference.
What is a highlight from your time in the Graduate Program so far?
One of the biggest highlights of the program has been sharing the experience with my Grad cohort. They genuinely became friends, and having the opportunity to reconnect with them weekly and share our experiences has been incredibly meaningful.
What do you think makes a good Escient Graduate?
A great Escient Graduate is someone who is curious, eager to learn, and open to new experiences. It’s someone who embraces challenges with enthusiasm and is excited about developing new skills.
What has been your biggest achievement so far as an Escient Graduate?
It’s funny—when you first start the Grad Program, everything feels new and unfamiliar, and it’s easy to feel like you don’t know much. But by the end, almost without realising it, you begin thinking and speaking like a consultant. For me, the biggest achievement has been looking back and recognising just how much I’ve grown over the past year.
