Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Arts (Politics and Gender Studies), Masters of International Relations

What’s your background?

I was born and raised in Christchurch, New Zealand. Having completed my Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Arts at the University of Otago in Dunedin, I chose to pursue a Master’s of International Relations at the University of Melbourne. Throughout my Master’s degree, I took special interest in international law and human rights, international security, and not-for-profit organisations. My academic journey fed my curiosity, developed a never-ending desire to learn and grow, and honed my ability to work with a diverse range of people. After seven years of study, part-time hospitality and retail jobs, and several internships, I was eager to begin my professional journey in consulting.

Why did you choose Escient?

There were many reasons I chose Escient as the organisation to begin my professional journey. Foremost, the people are truly amazing and live by the company’s values in their day-to-day. After my interviews, I had a ‘gut feeling’ that Escient is a community and all of the people there can be authentically themselves. The second key reason I chose Escient was its B Corp certification; I want to work for a company that cares about the world and strives to leave a positive impact in the future.

What did you like about the Graduate recruitment process?

The Escient recruitment process was so much more enjoyable than every other graduate process I went through. The P&C team are genuinely warm and open to answering any questions you may have. Also, I loved the case study aspect of the final interview – it is a unique way to demonstrate your ability and role-play acting as a consultant.

What is a highlight from your time in the Graduate Program so far?

One of the main highlights for me was meeting and working with the interstate graduates. The Brisbane graduates flew down to Melbourne in our first couple of weeks, and we enjoyed some amazing activities, meals, and discussions together. It was great to start the year by meeting all the graduates in-person and establish strong connections.

What do you think makes a good Escient Graduate?

The desire to learn and a never-ending curiosity. At Escient, we are surrounded by brilliant consultants with masses of invaluable experience. Graduates have the opportunity and privilege to learn directly from these consultants, who are incredibly generous with their time and knowledge. I think a good Escient graduate makes the most of this opportunity and learns as much as possible.

What has been your biggest achievement so far as an Escient Graduate?

My most significant achievement has been the strong relationships built with my colleagues. I already feel part of the wider Escient community and have started to contribute to the amazing culture within the office. Also, I am proud to have begun meaningfully working on a client engagement within the first few weeks starting at Escient. I cannot wait to see what new skills I develop through this client engagement.
